Fun living in foreign lands

Post by ckafrica »

For all of us who've forsaken our homelands to live somewhere better/different (?)

That is much worse than Vietnam. VN can be quite easy actually, they're big on corruption so you can usually pay your way through many of these bureaucratic nightmares.

I'm trying to get my marriage papers through right now. I have to get a psychological test to show I'm not crazy (anyone who has ever met a vietnamese girl will know you have to be crazy if you are thinking of marrying them) and a dozen little bits of paper from the 4 corners of the earth. But a lawyer can grease the wheels for about 300$.

Then I can stop bribing the police to let her cohabitate with me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Grenada seems like one of the few conflicts like these that didn't end up completely fucked up by our involvement. That's worth something, right?

Grenada was a distraction. Essentially, the US had troops being sent to Lebanon, which was a bad place to go. Israeli mass murders that we were going to be assisting with, urban pacification with no plan - it was going to be bad. On the way over, Reagan suddenly decided that we needed to liberate a random island that happened to be ruled by commies.

Frankly, it was stupid. The entire thing can be boiled down to "It's a slow news day, let's shoot some islanders to make the people happy."

Well , Grenada was just pointless from the get go. The US had originally wanted to remove, Bishop, the pro-Cuban leader who had been deposed before the invasion even took place. The Cubans even said they wouldn't interfere in the invasion as long as the americans didn't attack the areas their troops on the island defended (which the US refused to do, of course).

"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."
